Individual assessment
Care is planned around age, health, temperament, confidence, equipment, weather and the information supplied by the owner. Group walking is only appropriate where compatibility and manageable behaviour can reasonably be maintained.
Handling
Calm, proportionate handling methods should be used. Aversive or harmful treatment is not acceptable. Muzzles, harnesses and other safety equipment may be required where they have been introduced appropriately and are necessary for safe care.
Weather
Exercise may be shortened, moved, adapted or replaced with a welfare visit when heat, ice, storms, flooding or another condition creates an avoidable risk.
Health and emergencies
Owners must disclose health information and provide veterinary and emergency contacts. Where urgent action is reasonably necessary and the owner cannot be reached, Pooch Patrol may seek veterinary help in the animal’s best interests.
Transport
Journeys should use suitable restraint, ventilation and handling appropriate to the animal and vehicle. Pets should not be left in unsafe temperatures or conditions.
Incident reporting
Material injuries, escapes, bites, illness or welfare concerns should be documented and communicated promptly. Service arrangements may be reviewed before further appointments.
